West Virginia University’s Bachelor of Science in Child Development and Family Studies with Pre-K Certification option, is ideal for off-campus individuals who must obtain a degree with certification in Pre-K to maintain their employment, as well as for other off campus individuals who want to enter the field of early childhood education earning a four-year degree. This online degree will help you obtain a specific body of knowledge in child development, while at the same time providing you with West Virginia State Department of Education requirements for Pre-K certification.

Students will learn developmentally appropriate practices, and focus on advocacy and leadership in the field of early education. Program courses address the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards for initial professional preparation. This program incorporates the West Virginia Core Knowledge and Core Competencies and the West Virginia Early Standards Framework: Early Learning Standards in order to include the most recent requirements set forth by West Virginia agencies responsible for the education of preschool children, which is in compliance with national standards relevant to all states.

All of the courses are offered online through WVU Online and Extended Campus utilizing the eCampus Blackboard Learning Systemexcept for CPR/First Aid and field experience which can be completed in the students’ home location under the supervision of experienced educators.
